Objective
To design a superhero character suitable for the PWRPLAY brand, created by Richard Voros, and design a poster fit for him.
Process
Designing a superhero was an interesting challenge, and opened up a new realm of possibilities within me. I was quite inexperienced in the genre of heroes, so this became an opportunity to not only express myself in a new way, but learn a new set of skills. To begin, I conceptualized the hero himself. I decided on a robot named 3X01, a newfound hero who was the final surviving member of a set of experimental bots. These bots were designed to protect the city, and this is exactly what 3X01 was going to set out to do, with a bit ot an attitude, a gloomy outlook towards his past, and two pistols and a metal guitar. Once I had this conceptualized, I designed a logo suited for him. Developing it in Adobe Photoshop, I took inspiration from early 2000s movie logos, enjoying their cybernetic and futuristic feeling, and deeming it suitable for this character. Once i had designed that, I began photobashing the character in Clip Studio Paint. This was a brand new opportunity to build a new skill, as I had never photobashed a character from scratch before; usually relying on my own illustration skills first, then the photography, not the opposite. This proved to be yet another newfound opportunity to refine my skills and expand my reach. Once I had the character built out, I moved to photoshop and added a background, and began the most enjoyable part of the process: painting the light. Creating a lightsource that made 3X01 look and feel apart of the environment proved difficult, but it was a very rewarding endeavor that proved to create a fantastic final result. The final poster gives a rebellious vibe, leading viewers to be excited about this new character. What they will not be prepared for, however, is the hidden depth that lies underneath the surface.
