Objective
To design packaging for both a hot sauce bottle and the accompanying box.
Process
When designing a hot sauce box, I wanted to work outside of my comfort zone and design something very simple, yet effective. I created some concepts of different hot sauce logos and found a lot of my ideas had dangerous or deadly themes. The balance I found within that, as to not make it too scary to a regular customer, was caution tape. This served a double purpose; being so bright it’ll stand out on a shelf without a second thought, and warning the customer of the dangers of the product’s heat. I developed a “caution: very hot” name for the brand to accompany this, and drew a red chili pepper in illustrator with the tape wrapping around it. While creating something so simple proved to be a test of my skills, I gained tremendous knowledge on how to make a simplistic design appealing to everyone. The final result instantly communicates heat, danger, and intrigue, three requirements for any fan of hot sauce.
