about magnet
The Trash Desert has existed for as long as she has. Created to rule it and monitor it, Magnet uses her head magnets to collect parts and build something new- creating life from what many others has thrown away. Being mute, she watches over her world in silence, taking great care to not let human scavengers interfere with her creations and world. While not all of her creations are successes, continues building new life -  and takes immense pride in it. For she cannot fathom what
else she would do with herself.
Objective
To design a character that represents a god overlooking a trash disposal plant.

Process
To say trash yards are interesting to me as a creative would be an understatement. They are chalked full of many different items, and have an abandoned atmosphere I strongly admire. With careful planning and ideation, I realized I wanted to create a trash desert; one that had been abandoned for thousands of years but carried remains of human history throughout its wastes. But this land could not exist alone; it needed a leader. With this in mind, I designed a magnet: a seven foot tall, stitched together robot who creates amalgamated monsters out of remnants of her sanctuary. To begin, I illustrated concepts. I thought I wanted a spherical magnet in her stomach at first. But throughout different iterations, I discovered that head magnets are much more interesting. When the final sketch was done, I brought it into photoshop and began photobashing this character to life. I wanted her to be as yellow as a desert, much like the trash wasteland she rules over. Once the pieces were all stitched together, I overpainted it in clip studio paint, using the colors I chose to create a striking look that still feels reminiscent of a god. Her design communicates an otherworldly, eternal feeling. One that is driven to not only create, but protect the creations she’s put her heart and soul into.
