Objective
To conceptualize an environment fitting for Magnet, the queen of the trash desert.
Process
When designing this location, I already had my idea in mind from my character design for Magnet. A trash desert, spanning thousands of miles and being filled with piles and piles of ancient human remains. This desert would be extremely hot, melting anyone unprepared to a crisp, and human survival would be rare; not only because of the lack of resources. It would also be crawling with the monsters that Magnet rose from the rubble. When I had finished settling on my ideas, I opened Clip Studio Paint and began painting. I painted a simple design firstly; focusing on what the outskirts of the trash desert could look like, and putting the color scheme first. Oranges and yellows were my priority, as Magnet had already established the color scheme, and consistency was key. Once the painting was finished, I moved onto the final photobashing of an area in the Trash Desert. I pictured this area being merged in between two mountains, with the trash running so deep you could suffocate within it. I first gathered images and stitched them together; then, I painted the light, focusing on the established colors and theming. The final result is a messy, grotesque picture that feels like it could burn you just from staring at it; which perfectly encapsulates the imagery I wanted to establish.
